Conversations That Matter
What are we doing to put our Spirituality into practice? Spirituality is about the way we live, after all. This is a place for Communal Lectio, Centering on the Word. Ministry of the Word is central to Precious Blood Spirituality.

I was deeply pained as I picked up the newspaper this morning and read about another suicide bombing in the Middle East. Images of oppression and conversations with Palestinians during my visit to the West Bank in 1996 flood my memory. I wonder - what will it take for there to be an end to "power over" others? As I read the Gospel I am called to another reality - "power with." I sigh.

The feeling is sadness. When I contemplate the Lord being hungry or thirsty or alone, I feel a certain calling to see his need and a sadness that he is in need. This morning's Gospel had him in tears over Jerusalem, and called me to explore this feeling of sadness more fully. In many ways I am too comfortable and find it difficult to notice his need. I am not sure that I am as willing to cry over Chicago as he was to cry over Jerusalem, and God knows, Chicago needs some crying over.
