I am tempted to focus on past failures but know that it is not enough to focus on our former rejections of past prophets and rejoice in our newfound chosen-ness as God’s people. This parable asks us to pay attention to how we as Jesus' disciples also are tempted to reject Jesus presence from our midst. I hear God’s anger at wild grapes, but wonder at a God who is so merciful that, after much disappointment, still sends his Son. I will try to look at every person in front of me today as someone God has sent. The task is to listen.
Hearing Jesus say he will give the kingdom to those who produce gives me a feeling of anxiety, like a kid who has to produce a great report card for his dad.
re: the letter to the Phillippians: Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
make your requests known to God.
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
When I read this, I feel secure, like a sea-tossed boat that has followed the lighthouse and is now in a safe harbor.
These are the "rules" for this new web log: These "rules" will remain posted on the side bar.
Conversation will be on the Gospel or any of the Scriptures for the coming Sunday.
The lens we will use to attend to the Word of God will include an understanding of Precious Blood Spirituality and the Life and mission of St. Gaspar del Bufalo.
Each entry must be an answer to one of these questions pertaining to the gospel. Maybe to be clear it might be an idea to begin each post with the appropriate question that you are responding to that day.
1. What did I hear?
What did he say that affected me? What did I hear for the first time? What leapt off the page at me? What word or phrase is important?
2. How does this make me feel?
No thoughts, opinions or judgments. If you can use the words “I think…” intelligibly in the sentence it is not a feeling. Stick to feelings. Maybe start the sentence with “I am….”
3. What will I do?
How does the gospel call me to live? No plans, hopes or dreams; what concrete action will I do this week?
Other kinds of thoughts, discussion, opinions, debate, can all be moved over to The New Gasparian. If you want to be able to post there, let me know.
